Frequently asked questions.
Will my Lifeline service stop during the shutdown?
No. Lifeline is funded by the Universal Service Fund (USF), which comes from landline and wireless customer contributions—not Congress’s annual budget. Your Gen Mobile Lifeline service will continue without interruption, although application or recertification processing might take slightly longer.
Will SNAP disruptions affect my Lifeline eligibility?
No.
We understand that the delay or suspension of SNAP benefits is a major source of financial stress. If you currently qualify for Lifeline based on your participation in SNAP (received via the EBT card), a temporary pause in your SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown does not affect your Lifeline enrollment.
The two programs have separate administrative systems. As long as you maintain your eligibility and continue to use your Gen Mobile service at least once every 30 days, your Lifeline discount remains active.
Can I still apply for Lifeline during the shutdown?
Yes. Applications are still accepted, but verification through federal systems may take longer if agencies have limited operations.
What if my Lifeline recertification is due now?
Complete it as scheduled—online, by mail, or with customer support. If the National Verifier is delayed, you’ll be notified before any service interruption.
Will SNAP payments continue during the shutdown?
Some states may issue benefits for a short period using existing federal funds. Check your state’s SNAP website for updates.
Can I still use my EBT balance if new funds are delayed?
Yes. Any funds already on your EBT card remain usable even if future deposits are postponed.
