FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: What is the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program?

On December 27, 2020, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 became law and established an Emergency Broadband Connectivity Fund of $3.2 billion in the United States Treasury to help Americans afford internet service during the pandemic. The Act directed the Federal Communications Commission to use the fund to establish an Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB Program), under which eligible low-income households may receive a discount off the cost of broadband service and certain connected devices, and participating providers, like Gen Mobile, can receive a reimbursement for such discounts. The EBB Program will conclude when the fund is expended or six months after the end of the public health emergency. Once the federal government announces the EBB program end date, we will notify you at least 30 days before the program ends. At this time, you may choose to keep your service by selecting one of Gen Mobile's existing monthly phone or data only plans.

Q2: Who is eligible for the EBB program?

A household is eligible if a member of the household* meets one of the criteria below:

*A household is a group of people who live together and share money (even if they are not related to each other). If you live together and share money, you are one household. If you either don’t live together or you don’t share money, you are two or more households.”
