Gen Mobile Resources

The Safe Connections Act (“SCA”) is a federal law protecting survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and related crimes.

Alongside Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) rules, it allows adult survivors (18 years or older) to secretly separate their mobile phone lines – as well as the lines of any dependents in their care – from a shared multi-line account they have with an abuser.

Gen Mobile and the Safe Connections Act

Currently, Gen Mobile only offers single-line wireless accounts. Because our customers are not on shared, multi-line plans, the line separation process does not apply to Gen Mobile accounts at this time. If you are a survivor leaving a shared account with a different carrier, you are free to subscribe to any of our prepaid plans once your lines are separated.

Lifeline

If you are experiencing financial hardship as a survivor, you may qualify for Lifeline under the SCA. The SCA provides up to six months of emergency communications support through the Lifeline program for qualifying survivors experiencing financial hardship. You can confirm your financial hardship if your household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or if you participate in programs such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (“WIC”), the Free and Reduced-Price School Lunch or Breakfast program, or if you received a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year. After six months, you may apply for the standard Lifeline benefit.
